Wine Cellar - Origins

Alentejo has colour, taste and aroma. It offers the best red wines: bodied, warm, soft, loaded with colour and a great aroma of red fruits, in a very balanced set. Simultaneously, Alentejo is also recognized by its white wines: complex, fruity and with balanced acidity.

Here, in the region of S. Mamede, the temperature in summer reaches high values during the day, refreshing during the night, which reflects in grapes’ maturation, giving them a good balance between sugars, colour and aromas. Besides the solar exposition, the altitude and richness of the soils, as well as the protection against frosts and cold winters, give our wines the sensorial characteristics that make them distinct and special.

These factors qualify our wines, make them bodied, fruity and well balanced and allow them to evolve in bottle over several years, earning a very special or unique complexity of aromas. It is in these vineyards, in Serra de S. Mamede, that we gather an average of 4 to 5 thousand kilograms of grapes per hectare, that are the origin of the outstanding wine produced by Adega Cooperativa de Portalegre.
