More than 50 years tell us the history of Adega Cooperativa de Portalegre, a Wine Cellar that, across the years, has been accumulating knowledge and experience and has wisely combinied the unique location of their vineyards with Man’s work.
It was in 1954 that a group of people joined together to turn the grapes of associates and founding members into wine. The first great wines of Alentejo were given birth taking advantage of vineyards’ excellent location on S. Mamede slopes.
Adega Cooperativa de Portalegre was early aware that a great wine starts in the vineyard and that the human element plays an important role, and has, ever since, been concerned in providing the necessary support to their approximately 263 members and associates, from the planting of the vineyards to the grape-gathering.

Once cultivated by Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans and, today, by great producers, vineyards are given all the care and attention that only the experience and knowledge of a well prepared and qualified team allow. Always choosing the suitable products for vineyards’ protection and seasonal pest fighting, Adega Cooperativa de Portalegre thus contributes to the treatment of vineyards, while helping to protect the environment.
These ingredients are combined in an evolutionary path based on innovation, technology and modernization of manufacturing processes, to give these wines a unique quality historically recognized and that remains until the present time. |
